It took Confucius around 30 to 50 years to write his "Analects of Confucius". These Analects were mostly about Confucius and his thoughts. The chapters in the Analects are not arranged in a way that continues a stream of ideas or thoughts. They are actually arranged by their theme. Because these chapters are arranged by their themes, when they are read they could sound totally random because each theme to each chapter is different.

Confucius's Analects have influenced the Chinese's philosophy and values for many years. Each chapter of the Analects have taught basic Confucian values like propriety, loyalty, righteousness, filial piety. What exactly do each of these mean?
- Propriety basically has the same meaning as Proper. Or you have good manners, and you know how to treat somebody.
- Loyalty is to be loyal. When you are loyal to somebody or something you are faithful to your commitments or obligations.
- Righteousness is the state to be righteous. Righteous means to act by mortality. You believe what your religion tells you.
- Filial Piety is, in Confucian thought, one of the virtues to be cultivated, a love and respect for one's parents and ancestors.
